Most people saw Charlotte as a psychopathic, child-like vampire, and nothing more. I, however, having been gifted with the blessing of a rare kind of sight, saw her for what she truly was: an inspiration. Charlotte was the pinnacle of achievement and greatness. She was a physical representation of that which I value most: Reason. The fact that she resembled a child only served to underscore the veracity of the first lesson she taught me; that it's not what you look like, so much as who you are inside that counts. The fact that she wore the finest black dresses and was always the perfect image of dignity and grace proved the second lesson: that while one's appearance isn't everything, it does count for something.
What I admired even more than her appearance however, was her intellect. Charlotte was never taken in by Marcus Van Sciver's odius lies. She used her intelligence to see through his devious deceptions. She was possessed of a great mind, full of reason, which she expressed through her soft-spoken commands. She rarely raised her voice. She always spoke with a kind of quiet authority which afforded her a commanding presence and garnered great respect from all who knew her (except Blade).
Although the Daywalker did choose to murder Charlotte, and in so doing, reject her reasoned offer of life, he could never hope to destroy the ideas for which she stood: Maturity, Dignity, Reason, Truth, and ultimately, Life.
These values will be with me for as long as I live.
Very few people are both great leaders and true inspirations; Charlotte was both.
